Winter Growth

Ever wonder what flower farmers do all winter?  We explore how to extend our growing season to have more florals available all year round.

Pussy Willow is a perennial shrub we cut early in the winter and "force" open by bringing it indoors until the catkins swell and look like little kitten toes

French pussy willow is handled the same way.  This variety gives a more delicate appearance.

Also in the willow family is curly willow.  This we simply cut and use for the structural shape of the branches.  If left in water over several weeks it will leaf out and bring spring indoors, but watch out, it'll fade as quickly as it greened up.
